Workplace will check to see if you have an antivirus program running on your machine, as per your applicable security policy. This is to ensure that if your computer is exposed to a virus that the problem can be solved and your work can be secured. If Workplace indicates that your antivirus program is turned off or missing, you'll need to turn it on. Now, not only must your antivirus program be installed and running but it's got to have real-time protection enabled, your virus signatures and definitions need to be up-to-date, and of course you can't have any active infections.
No matter what kind of computer you're on, if you don't have antivirus, you can go online and find an antivirus suite that offers these features. A list of supported antivirus programs can be found here:
Supported Windows antivirus software
Supported Mac antivirus software
The latest installations of Windows even have a built-in option called Windows Defender that applies.
Once you have your antivirus program installed, it needs to have some settings configured.
Real time protection just means that the antivirus program is running all the time on your machine, looking for inbound threats and viruses. Make sure that you have the program set to update the Antivirus signatures automatically and that they have run recently. And certainly make sure that you don't have an active virus infection! If any of these are not set, you may not be able to proceed. If you have an active virus infection, you definitely want to resolve that before logging into your work!
If you cannot currently install an anti-virus program on your device to satisfy the device security check, you may be able to contact your local admin or IT support to grant you a one-time exception so you can continue on.
Once your you've got your anti-virus program installed and all of the high security options turned on, refresh the Workplace security checks page or go back to log into your portal. If any of the checks are still coming up as failed, recheck the pertinent settings in your antivirus program. Once resolved, Workplace will indicate that you have passed the check and you can proceed!
