Every company has a compliance policy in place that states how your computer’s security should be set. The policy might require you to have a screensaver with a password, antivirus software, or to have your hard drive encrypted.
Historically, it's been challenging for companies to enforce these compliance policies. But now there's Workplace!
Workplace acts as a gate in front of your firm’s sensitive data to help keep you compliant. Dynamic Access Control is a feature that dynamically permits or denies access to specific applications, websites and files based on your firm’s compliance policy. Using advanced technology, Workplace analyzes a device's security and compliance status in real-time, and reports on those fundamental settings at regular intervals for as long as you are logged into the Workplace for Windows and Mac or Web apps.
If your device passes all security checks, you have Full access to Workplace.
If your device fails any of these checks, at any time, a popup window will alert you that your device is no longer compliant with your company's policy, and access to Workplace will be affected. This will change how you work with your data.
When your device is out of compliance, on each page of Workplace for Windows and Mac, and the Workplace web app, you'll find a banner that explains limited access and serves as a reminder for you to remediate your settings issue.
What you'll discover is that your local file syncing is turned off, because your Workplace drive will be unlinked.
However, you will be able to access your data in the Secure browser, which means that your file manager shortcut, which is your folder or hard drive icon in the Workplace for Windows and Mac apps, will launch the Workplace Web App file manager in the Secure Browser, allowing you to continue working with your files. And, some highly sensitive websites can only be accessed in the Secure Browser.
A gray shield will appear on your Web app icons, indicating that they will be launched in Secure browser, and not in a local browser.
In Secure browser, If you enter a URL that is restricted, you'll also see a message and the reason why the site has been blocked.
Please reach out to your company manager with any questions you may have about your company compliance policies.
Now that you understand how Workplace helps you remain productive AND compliant, in the next module of the Workplace Stronghold course, you'll learn how to set up Workplace.
