What is a Company Manager?
Company Managers, or CMs, are integral users who hold the keys to managing their team in Workplace. As a CM, you are an administrative point of contact for your team and Workplace support. You are also able to configure the security policies for your company in Workplace.
Whenever Workplace support receives a change request from an end user, they will seek your approval. This can include adjustments like:
- Modifying groups
- File and application access
- Password resets
Any changes to your environment, security approval, or other questions impacting the team will be directed to a CM before action is taken.
With that said, many of these changes can be managed directly by a CM through your company dashboard, including:
- Password resets
- Account access issues
- Group management
- File and application access
- Mail distribution group management
- Setting up websites
- Auditing and reporting
- Folder permissions for the Classic Workplace file system
- Configuring Workplace based on company security policies
We'll be visiting each of these in upcoming modules.
Admins also have a special users folder located in the Workplace Web App, which allows you to access the personal folder of all users in your Workplace.
If you are using the Classic Workplace file system, the folder will be in Work (Groups).
If you use the Modern Workplace file system, from the Company Dashboard click All files, where you will see a folder called Employees.
Promoting a Company Manager
There may be other key people in your organization who you want as a Workplace Company Manager. Remember that a Company Manager has full administrative access to everything in your Workplace, so make sure that only the appropriate team members are promoted to this role.
Promoting a new CM is easily completed in the Workplace user administration section. From the Company Dashboard, click Manage users.
Select the team member, and then click Security options in the sidebar.
Click Edit at the bottom of the page.
Check the Company Manager option, and then click Save changes.
Click Done to return to the Users list.
So that's an overview of the purpose and role of a Company Manager.
