The most secure company-controlled websites you can provide to your users are called SAML federated websites. Let's take a closer look.
SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) is a form of single-sign-on used by many enterprise software applications. Unlike the previous SSO scenarios, where the user’s credentials are passed from one system to the other, SAML integrations transfer the user’s identity securely from the Identity Provider (Workplace) to the Service Provider (web applications such as Fidelity and Salesforce).
The Identity Provider and the Service Provider establish a trusted relationship such that the identity provider’s authentication is accepted by the Service provider. Workplace currently has established trusted relationships with many service providers, with new ones being added quickly!
SAML has been widely adopted for three primary reasons:
- SAML is standardized
- SAML is secure
- SAML provides an excellent user experience
As an identity provider, Workplace serves as the authentication for many SaaS applications, enabling centralized access control. Any site that is federated with Workplace can provide your agents, reps and advisors with one-click access to firm-specified applications. These SAML websites also reduce the security risks associated with multiple logins and passwords, and actually remove the need for passwords to be managed or stored by anyone. That's one less password to remember, or worry about getting stolen.
Let's take a look at some of the websites that have already been set up using SAML federation technology. One of them is Workplace Academy, our self-paced training portal available to everyone who uses Workplace. You can tell by looking at the checkmark under the federated column. For these federated websites, there may be some specific configuration that needs to be set up in order to make that website work with the third party. Here I would look at Edit federation, and you'll notice that, for example, my company has a specific team ID, which is required for this particular integration to work.
I'm going to cancel my changes for now.
I'll click Company dashboard to return to the dashboard.
Workplace Websites are a really robust feature. If you have any questions, or if there's a website you'd like to add or federate, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.
