In today's modern world, many Workplace users use cloud-based SaaS applications, also known as web applications. Web applications are accessed by using a web browser.
Workplace users have different web browsing options available to them depending on the sensitivity of the data they are accessing and their Workplace subscription plan.
The web browsers that users may have access to include:
Local Browser
A local browser is a web browser that is installed on your physical computer. Any data accessed by a local browser is stored on your physical computer and can be susceptible to data leakage.
You may find the following web browser installed by default or available for download:
- Windows
- Internet Explorer - Installed by default on Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7.
- Microsoft Edge - Installed by default on Windows 10 or later.
- Google Chrome
- Firefox
- macOS
- Safari - Installed by default

These applications can be opened by clicking on the application icon in the Start menu, the Dock or the Applications folder.

Secure Browser is a web browser built with the financial industry in mind. Secure Browser:
- Isolates sensitive web activity in an ultra-secure environment, separate from a user's device and network.
- Enables full logging and audit trail for web activity, including pages visited, files downloaded, documents printed, any information copied to the clipboard, and more.
- Can optionally record browsing sessions for sensitive sites.
- Is uniquely built to exceed FINRA, SEC and State regulatory guidance.
Secure Browser is embedded inside the Workplace Desktop application. Depending on your computer's compliance status, some web applications may be restricted to Secure Browser.

Workplace Select customers have the option to run a web browser as a Secure Hosted Application. These hosted applications run within a single-tenant environment inside of Workplace's secure data center virtually from any computer.
Hosted applications reduce the risk of data leakage by keeping data off local computers and in a single-tenant environment. This means the server hosting your applications is only used by your organization.
Workplace utilizes Xenapp to host and manage these applications. When users install Workplace, the software needed to communicate with the hosted applications is automatically installed for Workplace Select customers.
A hosted browser can be launch from the Hosted App section of Workplace Desktop or the Workplace Web App.
