Conditional Access
Introducing Conditional Access with Workplace. Conditional Access allows companies to set specific device compliance policies in order to access Workplace.
Conditional Access on Workplace Desktop
Workplace will scan your device to determine if your device is compliant with your company's policy. Depending on the results of your scan, Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac will have one of the following access types:
- Full Access
- Users have access to all Workplace features.
- Limited Access
- Local Workplace drive is unlinked.
- File Syncing is turned off.
- File Manager utilizes the Workplace Web App in Secure Browser.
- Files are edited using the appropriate online application (Word Online, Excel Online) in Secure Browser.
- Mandated websites can only be accessed with Secure Browser.
- Restricted Access
- Local Workplace drive is unlinked.
- Users are automatically signed out of Workplace.
- Users will not be able to sign in and access Workplace.
The results of your device scan can be found in Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac, under the Compliance Status section.
Conditional Access on Workplace Web App
Conditional Access on Workplace Web App requires Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac to be installed. If Workplace Desktop is not installed, the device will be considered non-compliant.
Depending on the results of your scan, the Workplace Web app will have one of the following access:
- Full Access
- Users have access to all Workplace features.
- Limited Access
- Files can not be downloaded.
- Files can be edited using the appropriate online application (Word Online, Excel Online)
- Mandated websites can only be accessed with Secure Browser.
- If Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac is not installed, mandated websites will be unavailable and greyed out.
- Restricted Access
- Users are automatically signed out of Workplace
- Users will not be able to sign in and access Workplace
The results of your device scan can be found in Workplace Web App, under the Compliance Status section.
Connectivity Health
Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac will scan and determine the health of your internet connection. When hosted applications or websites are running slow, users can check the Connectivity Health section to determine the strength of their connection.
Connectivity Health will:
- Display real-time connectivity status within Workplace.
- Display on-screen alerts when connectivity status changes.
- UI Improvement: Display signal strength in the sidebar.
- UI Improvement: Display tooltips describing what is latency and packet loss.
Secure Browser
- Added Secure Browser Tour and Tour Banner.
- Secure Browser web filtering.
- Secure Browser is preloaded when Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac is launched.
- Workplace will automatically resume an inactive Secure Browser session
- New Default Tab in Secure Browser.
- Shows description of what is Secure Browser.
- Shows links to websites that are mandated to open in Secure Browser.
- Default Tab will appear when launching a new Secure Browser session or when opening a new tab.
- File Uploader allows users to upload files from their local device or from the Workplace file manager.
- Secure Browser will run anti-virus scanning on files downloaded with Secure Browser.
- Secure Browser supports printing.
- Secure Browser will present an Adjusting Screen Resolution message when the size of the Workplace window is changed.
- Secure Browser will display a timeout message when a session is disconnected due to internet connectivity.
- Secure Browser will attempt to reconnect to a session when internet connectivity is improved.
- Secure Browser will terminate any active session nightly.
- Users will be presented a warning if they are in Secure Browser at the time of reset.
- Added ability to reset Secure Browser if Secure Browser is slow or unresponsive in the Help section.
- When a device is not compliant, Secure Browser downloads will open in:
- Workplace Web App file manager in Secure Browser
- The appropriate online application (Word Online, Excel Online) in Secure Browser
- When a device is compliant, Secure Browser downloads will open in:
- The local file manager (Windows Explorer or Mac Finder)
- The appropriate application (Word, Excel) locally.
Simple Logout
When a user quits the Workplace for Windows or Workplace for Mac:
- They will be prompted if files are opened.
- They will be prompted if files are in the process of syncing.
- They will be prompted to keep synced files or deleted synced files.
- Hosted applications will automatically be paused.
Workplace Files
- Implements the modern Workplace file system.
- Users can share folders with other Workplace users and guest users.
- Users can view the history of a File or Folder.
Miscellaneous Enhancements in Workplace 3.2
Session Timeout
- Companies can set an idle session timeout duration
- Once idle session timeout is reached, Workplace for Windows and Workplace for Mac will automatically sign out the user from Workplace.
- Idle time is based on the entire device and is not limited to the Workplace application.
- Opened files will remain open but will not be able to save changes to Workplace.
- Workplace will display a message informing the user of the session timeout.

Get Help
- The help page in the Workplace Web App, Workplace for Windows and Workplace for Mac will display contact information based on individual company settings.
- Added link to Save log files for troubleshooting in Workplace for Windows and Workplace for Mac.
- The Link to Workplace Help Center is more prominent.
Login Screen
- Email field renamed to Username.
Mobile Apps
- Links and to download the Office 365 mobile apps only appear when users have access to Office 365.
- Email setup section only appears mobile Active Sync is enabled in company settings.
Password/Sign In Security
- All users will be required to sign in after a device is restarted/rebooted.
- Links to reset password added to Workplace for Windows and Workplace for Mac.
- Workplace for Windows and Workplace for Mac will prompt a user to reset their password after consecutive invalid sign in attempts.
- Workplace for Windows and Workplace for Mac will prompt a user to change their password when the password is about to expire or has expired.
Workplace Stronghold
- A user can sign into Workplace Mobile using an activation code instead of using a Username and Password when onboarding onto Workplace.
- New users to Workplace can skip the Mobile App setup process when onboarding onto Workplace.
- Citrix software is not automatically downloaded and installed for Workplace Stronghold users.
