What is Venn Disk?
Venn Disk is a virtual, encrypted, local drive accessible exclusively within the Secure Enclave upon user authentication into Venn. It serves as the storage location for all work-related data, including files, application data, registry settings, and Outlook OST files. When launching an application for the first time within the Secure Enclave on a new computer, Venn creates a unique and separate "work" profile for that application. For more information on configuring apps within the Secure Enclave review this article.
Accessing Work Files
The "V:" drive is where Windows users can find their work-related files. If your company utilizes platforms like Google Drive or OneDrive, they will appear as folders mounted within the "V:" drive. From there, files can be accessed and worked on directly within the Secure Enclave. Mac users, on the other hand, can only access their company's file system via a browser running within the Secure Enclave.
Configuring File Access
Workplace Drive
For companies using Venn's built-in file system called "Workplace Drive," no additional configuration is necessary. The "Workplace Drive" folder can be accessed directly from the "V:" drive. Each user is provided with a personal folder and a folder named "Secure Downloads." The personal folder, named after the user, acts as the default save location when saving a file inside of the enclave. The "Secure Downloads" folder serves as the default location for downloaded files.
3rd Party File Systems
To utilize a third-party file system such as OneDrive through Venn Disk, an administrator must assign the file system via the "Files and Data" DLP policy. Once assigned to a user, the application icon for the file system will appear within the Venn Launcher.
If the application icon contains a downward-facing arrow, it indicates that the application is not yet installed. The user must install the application on their computer before accessing files. After installation, it may take a minute or two for Venn to detect the installation and remove the downward-facing arrow.
To access a file system within the "V:" drive, follow these steps:
- Locate the file system's icon on the Venn Launcher. It can be found under the "Launch" or "Apps" tab in the navigation menu.
- Click the application icon to launch it.
- When the application opens, follow the instruction to sign in.
- After authentication, locate the "Files" icon within the "Launch" or "Apps" tab on the Venn Launcher.
- Click the icon to open File Explorer within the Secure Enclave.
- Find the folder corresponding to the file system's title (e.g., Google Drive).
- Click into the folder to access you company's files.
Upon successful authentication into the third-party file system, Venn will create a "Downloads" and "Documents" folder within that system if they do not already exist. These folders will become your default locations for downloads and saving files while working within Venn. To update the default locations, please log out and log back into Venn.
